Shocks as small as 10Gs can cause a momentary disconnect between the contacts on a memory DIMM or PCIe module and the connector socket. A loss of contact for less than 1 millisecond is sufficient to cause most computing systems to reboot or lockup.
Germane’s solution to this problem is its patented GEMSS module stabilization technology. Using Germane’s GEMSS for memory or I/O cards has been proven to eliminate 100% of memory related system crashes during shock events. Independent Department of Defense test facilities subjected systems using GEMSS to 192 shock events.
Many customer requirements mandate operation at high altitudes, continuous operation in high temperature, fan noise reduction, or other factors that limit air flow. All these situations all are problematic for high-performance computing systems whose CPUs and other components routinely generate heat. Failure to dissipate this heat shortens product life and contributes to system failures.
Germane’s solution to this widespread problem is its patented Aeroloc Baffle system. Germane’s unique AeroLoc Baffle is a passive thermal management system that maximizes air flow efficiency in high performance servers and workstations. It provides improved air flow cooling at lower CFM and eliminates hotspots resulting in increased product life and higher performance in high temperature environments.
Each AeroLoc Baffle is designed by Germane’s engineering team for a specific combination of motherboard, processor, memory, I/O and chassis. Extensive thermal modeling, real world air-flow testing and thermal chamber testing insure that the AeroLoc Baffle delivers air flow where it is needed and when it is needed.
Remote Battery Bypass
All high-performance computers rely on a small CMOS battery to maintain internal clocks, CPU settings, and other critical BIOS information. While CMOS batteries are highly reliable, they also need periodic replacement. In many rugged designs, traditional access to this CMOS battery is impossible, or at best very time-consuming and costly.
Germane’s patented Remote Battery Bypass enables the replacement of the BIOS battery without system shutdown. Germane’s design brings the CMOS battery to front or rear of the server or workstation where it can be replaced by the user and requires no tools. The simple replacement enables anyone to perform this maintenance task without training.

Thermal Control Module
The density of modern electronic components has a negative impact on thermal management – components and even motherboards themselves frequently generate hotspots which lead to increased thermal failures and shortened product and component lifecycles.
Germane’s patented Thermal Control Module (TCM) is a customizable cooling system that reduces fan noise while dramatically increasing the cooling efficiency of air cooled high-performance computing. The TCM includes the ability to control software and firmware switch settings.
The TCM enables Germane’s engineers to customize the air flow of each fan to match the exact cooling for a specific zone. Each cooling zone has a dedicated thermocouple to monitor key points in the computer and dynamically adjust the air speed based on the temperature of that zone.
In addition to eliminating troublesome hotspots and increasing the overall reliability of the system, Germane’s TCM allows products to operate at increased temperatures by virtue of more efficient cooling.
